Do you remember the days when CD players were a thing? Although much less technologically advanced than the iPods of today, those archaic gems did the job of blasting our favorite pop hits. It was a time in life when boy bands were worthy of our praise. ‘N Sync was relevant and it wasn’t all about Justin Timberlake. It was an era in which a bald Britney Spears was unfathomable. She was “not a girl, but not yet a woman” as she sang to us from the halls of her fictional high school. For the younger kids, it was a time in which Nickelodeon played all of the best cartoons: “Rocko’s Modern Life,” “The Rugrats,” “Doug” and “All That.” The era when getting slimed on Nickelodeon’s “Figure It Out” was every kid’s dream, and Tamagotchi’s were the hottest toy on the market. Ah yes, it was a simpler time. If you haven’t figured out what I am talking about by now, you must not be a 90s baby.
For those of you who were too young to experience 90s greatness, you have a second chance. Although it is impossible to relive all of the aspects of this golden era, 90s fashion is back in full force. From 90s grunge to daisy dresses, this era is dominating the fashion world right now. Have you been inside of a Forever 21 lately? Our love for this 90s fashion rebirth is strong, but dynamic denims is our favorite 90s revival.
Denim has long been held as a style staple. It has long been known that jeans pretty much go with everything, but 90s denim was done different. Skinny jeans were not the only fashion forward way to wear your denim. High wasted shorts and baggy pants were the 90s way to go. Denim jackets and vests were must haves. Denim on denim was approved.
Denim is a fun item to plan a look around, but experimenting with new ways to wear this trend can be tricky. This is especially true if the only denim that you’re used to wearing is your favorite pair of jeans. Since we are having so much fun with this trend, we wanted to show off a few different looks that we love. Hopefully these looks inspire you to try out the trend!
Denim on Denim: Denim on denim is best accomplished by mixing darker shades of denim with lighter shades. To add contrast to this outfit, add a pop of color with a fun necklace or bracelet.
If you think your look would go best with some arm candy, try out either the Alvina Abramova Sapphire Andromeda Circular Bracelet or the Blee Inara Multi Beaded Leather Bracelet. Both of these bracelets are rustic in nature and go well with the laid back look that denim produces.
If you are deciding to try out a necklace with your denim, we recommend either the David Aubrey Belinda Statement Necklace for a lot of added color or the Foxy Originals Enamel Carnival Pendant Necklace for subtle hints of color.
When adding earrings to your look, an up-do and some colorful statement earrings or studs will bring your look to life. To make a statement, try the Belsi Gold Alexis Chandelier Earrings. For a simpler look, you can try the ABS Fuschia Deco Stud Earrings.
The Denim Dress: When people think denim dress, they sometimes thing cow girl drab. However, the 2014 fashion runway has brought the denim dress back to life with chic twists.
If you go with a droop neck denim dress such as the first look, try wearing a necklace for added coverage. A dangling letter necklace such as the Lisa Stewart Carly ‘Dream’ Necklace is a nice one to consider.
For a dress with a higher neckline, you probably want to go with either a ring or some bangle bracelets. If you prefer a ring, try the Baroni Gold And Blue Chalcedony Cocktail Ring. Blue on blue is very in this season. If you would rather try a set of bangles, the ABS Crystal Bangle Set makes for a pristine look.
If your denim dress is more simple like fashion maven Alexa Chung’s dress then accessorize with a simple chain. Personalized jewelry comes in handy as a go-to simple accessory. Try out the West Avenue Jewelry Small Monogram Necklace.
Denim Overalls: Denim overalls were one of the biggest trends in the 90s, and once again we have to highlight the fabulous style of Alexa Chung. She sure does love her denim overalls, and she knows how to wear them right!
For Chung’s first look of fitted short overalls, you can’t go wrong with a pair of classic studs. The Melinda Maria Athena Stud Earrings are the cutest!
For a longer set of overalls, try rolling up the sleeves of your shirt and wearing a single bracelet. We think that the Athena Designs Sterling Silver Pearl Bangle would have been a nice addition to Chung’s outfit.
If you are going to wear the overalls alone as your fashion focus, try a bold statement piece like Chung did. We suggest the Roberta Chiarella Gold And Blue On Blue Bib Necklace.
We encourage you all to try out the denim trend! It really is super cute.
