Eclectic Looks Ruled at the SAG Awards

With the 2015 awards season in full swing, the Screen Actors Guild Awards were held recently. Just days after the Golden Globes, most of the stars continued to embrace minimalist jewelry styles, letting their gowns do the work of providing drama. Happily, not all of the ladies shied away from luxe accessories. And, if style watchers expected the white metal and sparkling diamonds that were popular at the Golden Globes to spill over into the rest of the awards season, they were mistaken. The SAG Awards brought out more eclectic looks, new hues and statement pieces from a handful of leading ladies.

Statement rings

Dramatic necklaces were mostly missing from the scene, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t large-scale statement pieces on display. With neckwear on the sidelines, rings took center stage. Sophia Bush went all in with a stacked ring look. She donned a total of four massive rings, two of which she layered on the same finger. United by 18-carat gold, the pieces featured lapis, chrysoprase, rainbow moonstone and Mexican fire opal. The total for the look came to $38,240.

Ear cuffs

Though the majority of the earrings on the red carpet were demure, a handful of ladies made a statement with ear cuffs. Though ear cuffs had a moment during last year’s award season last year, they were oversized and bold. This year’s versions took a more refined approach, mixing the eclectic look with a bit of elegance.

Emma Stone choose edgy white gold and diamond cuffs from Repossi. Her black blazer-style Dior dress with sheer skirt was a strong look that called for an equally dramatic accessory. Kiera Knightly also got in on the game with an equally edgy cuff in pink gold and diamonds also from Repossi. However, her’s were an unexpected twist against an ultra-feminine purple Erdem gown.
But, no one committed to the ear cuff trend quite like Rashida Jones. The star went for mega sparkles with cluster-style cuffs featuring 20 carats of diamonds.

High-drama bracelets

Nearly every gown looks better with something pretty at the wrist and the ladies at the SAG Award knew it. However, this year the stars shoved aside the usual rows of diamonds and stacks of bangles for large, dramatic bracelets and cuffs.

Julia Roberts’ solid black jumpsuit was screaming for color and found it in an oversized cuff. Her Tiffany bracelet featured platinum, diamonds and chrysoprase. The cutout design gave the piece an open and airy look that lightened the overall feel of her outfit

Joanne Froggart added a diamond cuff, featuring a cutout scroll design, to her Salvatore Farragamo gown. Despite its size the large bracelet looked light and open and provided just enough glamor and sparkle against her dark dress
