Last night we were treated to a geisha Katy Perry, a “horseback” riding Lady Gaga, and a four minute opus that made us fall in love with Justin Timberlake all over again. Sunday night’s American Music Awards telecast on ABC - underwhelmingly hosted by Pitbull - was chock full of performances. Most notably, Lady Gaga was Marilyn Monroe (and R. Kelly was JFK? - there’s a frightening thought) and Jennifer Lopez did a dance number that proves she is the-woman-who-does-not-age. We were confused by Kitty Miley/Miley and the Cat/The Crying Kitty behind Miley Cyrus, but what else is new? We WILL say that the now-legal (as if it matters) Cyrus looked refined on the red carpet in a cropped white pant and matching suit jacket. Mucho chic for the twerker of the year. Katy Perry was fun and flirty in a floor length polka dot Oscar de la Renta gown. We loved the the little bursts of colorful flowers that accented the dress. But Taylor Swift takes the (sparkly) cake: the starlet rocked a gorgeous glittering gold mini dress that felt very true to her, yet mature and sophisticated. Mad props, Tay Tay.
