It’s interesting to think about January 19 and 20, 2009. The former being the observation of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a day remembering the birth of one of the most memorable American civil rights leaders who was so heinously assassinated back in 1968. The latter is Inauguration Day when Barack Obama, America’s first president of African American descent, will be sworn into office as our nation’s Commander-in-Chief. It’s nice how the two days tie together as Obama’s installation in office is the realization of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “dream.”
The days leading up to the Inauguration have been filled with tons of hope for the future of our country, as well as immense patriotism. Will.I.Am’s song “Yes We Can,” an enthusiastic ode to Obama’s election using his campaign slogan, has been getting tremendous airplay. Even our Starbucks coffees were wrapped in red, white, and blue insulating sleeves this morning!
Aside from the political portion of the Inauguration tomorrow, many media outlets have been scrutinizing over what Michelle Obama, our nation’s future First Lady, will wear to the ceremonious event and the Inaugural Ball that follows. Renaissance, as she’s been dubbed by the Secret Service, has been known for her fashionable style choices. We can only imagine which designer gown she’ll be wearing as she sweeps across the dance floor with her President husband as they share their first dance as President of the United States and First Lady to Etta James’s “At Last,” as sung by Beyonce Knowles.
You can take a queue from Michelle Obama’s style and dress fashionably in recognition of the activities, and maybe even throw a bit of patriotism into the mix by wearing our nation’s colors.
