Halloween DIY!

Can you believe October is here already? It seems like just yesterday we were soaking up our last rays of summer sun on the beach and now the craziest holiday of the year is right around the corner. If you’re like most of us—and by us we mean procrastinators—you’ve probably been too busy and frantic to even think about what you’re going to be for Halloween this year. Don’t fret! We’ve rounded up some of our favorite costume ideas for you, each complete with an accessory guide! You can thank us later ; )

Cleopatra: Who wouldn’t want to be queen for a day—especially the sultry Queen of the Nile? Style-wise Cleopatra was known for her distinct black hair, hardcore eyeliner, Grecian-inspired gowns, and statement-making gold jewelry. This Halloween pull together a Cleopatra-inspired costume à la Elizabeth Taylor. Rock her stunning black-eyeliner-and-blue-eye-shadow combo from the classic 1963 film (Cleopatra) with a maxi dress and gold jewels to get the look. Accessorize with jewelry like the Roman Luxe Gold Five-Strand Snake Chains and Tubes Bib Necklace, the Yochi Pyramid Earrings, and the Satya Jewelry Serpent Fluidity Cuff to evoke the powerful presence of Cleopatra and the glamour of Liz Taylor at the same time.

Flapper: This first costume suggestion may or may not have been inspired by the recent film release of “Great Gatsby.” There’s something timelessly beautiful about finger waves, silky frocks, and deco jewels – they each evoke that 1920’s flapper look that we love so much. For a DIY costume, 1) throw on a silky or fringe-filled number, 2) fix your hair into an era-appropriate ‘do (i.e. sleep in hairspray-heavy braids and side pin them in the morning), and 3) snag a couple pieces of signature jewelry to complete the look. Pair a classic long pearl chain with a modern pair of art-deco-inspired earrings: the Blu Bijoux White Pearl and Chains Necklace ($23!) and the Bing Bang Sacred Geometry Silver Button Earrings are perfect!

Holly Golightly/Audrey Hepburn: Breakfast at Tiffany’s has to be one of our favorite films and Holly Golightly—played by the incomparable Audrey Hepburn—has to be one of our favorite characters. Like Holly, we too find comfort in diamonds; after all they are a girl’s best friend! Her signature black dress and pearl ensemble is iconic and reflective of Hepburn’s own elegant style. Grab an LBD, cigarette holder, long black gloves, diamonds, and loads of pearls to recreate this classic look for Halloween. All eyes will be on you if you wear the Pearl and Crystal Brooch Pendant Necklace by Ben-Amun and the Crystal Floral Stud Earrings by Roberta Chiarella. We can already picture you standing outside of a Tiffany & Co. storefront with a Danish pastry in one hand and a hot cup of coffee in the other.

Gypsy: A traditional gypsy costume is always a great go to for Halloween because it’s sexy and simple. All you need are some sultry peasant-inspired threads, colorful scarves, and stand-out boho jewels. A big pair of embellished hoops is a must. Let your hair down and try a coin-detailed pair like the Gold and Oxidized Silver Moroccan Teardrop Hoop Earrings by Ija Designs or a beaded design like the K. Amato Beaded Hoop Earrings. Both styles give off authentic gypsy vibes. Now all you need is a hammered bangle set like the Infinity Pod Solar Bangle by Melinda Maria or the Gold Hammered Bangle Set by Privileged.

Voilà—your Halloween costume fortune has been told!
