Sultry with Satya

Max and Chloe was lucky enough to score an interview with globally conscious jewelry designer Satya. Their jewelry line is simply spiritual and we’re smitten! Listen in to our interview to find out more about Satya’s charity work and learn about the inspiration behind their designs!

Max and Chloe: Who are the founders of Satya?

Satya: Satya Scainetti & Beth Torstrick Ward.

MC: What brought you together?

S: We worked together at another company & became great friends.

MC: Where is your office based out of?

S: NYC, we have a large loft space in downtown Chelsea.

MC: What does Satya mean? How does it relate to Satya jewelry?

S: Satya means truth in Sanskrit. I was given the name by one of my spiritual teachers, which is where the idea of the company came from.

MC: What are your favorite hobbies and how do they influence your designs?

S: I have always loved travel and working out, and yoga has been a part of my exercise routine. The practice of yoga has brought me to India, it is such an inspiring country with all its vibrant colors and textures, as well as its spiritual abundance, this has all greatly influenced the designs.

MC: What role does your spirituality play in your lives and your work?

S: I am a practicing yogi and constantly work on balancing the mind, body and spirit. I try to practice yoga everyday, we have created a work environment that encourages the same balance.

MC: Tell us about the Satya Foundation? What are its primary goals?

S: When we started the company we had two goals, first: to design beautiful jewelry of all truths and the other to donate a percentage of our sales to children in need around the world. We focus on education and healthy living.

MC: Tell us a little bit about how you incorporate global consciousness into your jewelry collection?

S: The hope for our collections is that each individual could walk into our Satya shops and find something that touches their hearts, whether its a spiritual symbol or a stone that they are drawn to. We hope to honor all truths and bridge the gap between all people. I love the quote from the teacher, Swami Sivananda “The paths are many, the truth is one.”

MC: Where do you draw inspiration from?

S: TRAVEL, especially spiritual places from Istanbul to India all the way to Thailand.

MC: Your designs are heavily infused with symbols of snakes, Oms, and Hamsas - why have you chosen to incorporate these symbols in particular into your pieces? What do you think it is about them that make them universally appealing?

S: I believe we are looking for something that we can connect to that gives us strength and courage. All these symbols are reminders of what we have inside ourselves, our true potential. Life is so challenging at times and having a symbol that resonates with you draping from your neck or body can remind you that you can get through anything.

MC: What is your ultimate goal with Satya Jewelry?

S: I am very passionate about the foundation and the beautiful children we work with. I am determined to build and grow the Satya foundation so we can touch as many children in need as possible.

MC: What advice do you have for aspiring jewelry designers?

S: Have enough passion for what you are designing so that it becomes contagious. Be unique.
