Paris, Je T’Aime

Springtime in Paris: It doesn’t get much better than that. Au printemps, the City of Lights is teeming with beauty, full of centuries-old architecture. It has been the source of artistic inspiration, and the pinnacle of taste and sophistication. The Louvre, a haven for some of the most treasured works of art in the world, is a slice of architectural genius in and of itself. For an American, a regular Parisian commute becomes a wondrous experience, bursting with life, art, romance, and- of course- fashion.

21st century Paris has proven to be one of the world’s epicenters of couture design; but this season’s new trend involves Paris in the past. Parisian fashion from the 1930s to the 1950s made tremendous strides that were adopted throughout the world. The emergence of pioneer Coco Chanel changed the face and attitude of fashion; and Art Deco had broken substantial ground in the United States, as well as in France. The look was geometrical, colorful, and lavish in its nature; and this idea spawned new creations in architecture, visual art, interior design, and fashion. 1930s Art Deco jewelry was opulent and over-the-top, sparkling and shimmering in every direction, and in every color imaginable.

The look to have in the 21st century is a hybrid of this early idea. Yellow gold and big, colorful stones are the pieces to have right now. Kenneth Jay Lane Crystal Rings sport a bold, geometric design, and are available in several bright colors. CC Skye Baguette Bracelet features more muted colors, but still shines with the stones’ many facets. Blu Bijoux Topaz Cuff and Jessica Elliot Gold Vermeil Wrought Iron Cuff are two pieces that inspire a 1930s feeling. The topaz set against the simple gold is very Art Deco. CC Skye Vintage Cocktail Ring says it all: vintage-inspired, with big, fabulous stones. If it’s vintage, it’s never out of style.

Consider yourself a Francophile? Take this chic Parisian look one step further. Wear a high-waisted skirt and tuck in a short sleeve sweater. Cinch your middle with a thick belt, slide into your pumps, put on your big gold bracelet and sparkling cocktail ring, and get ready to hit up the Champs-Elysees!…or your local shopping center. Vive la Facon!
