Tusk, tooth and claw jewelry accents are no longer for the surfer crowd. After Nicolas Ghesquière showed them on the Balenciaga Spring 2010 runway, the fashion set is channeling nature’s fierce creatures as well.
This tribal trend is bound to be seen everywhere on the music festival circuit this spring and summer. If you’ve ever looked at pictures from South by Southwest, Coachella, Reading & Leeds or Glastonbury, you’ve not only seen how the stars flock to them to listen to great new music, but you’ve also noticed how trends are started by young starlets and fashionistas for all to follow for the rest of the summer. Last year was all about the feather accents, but this year, tusks, teeth and claws might just win out.
These trends can be found on Max & Chloe starting at less than $100. At a lower price point is the edgy and fashionable Janna Conner Designs Gold Shark’s Tooth Necklace with a gold plated shark tooth and a garnet quartz briolette. There is also the Odette Yellow Gold Fox Claw Necklace and Allison Schiller Tibetan Bone Pendant Necklace. On a higher scale is the Meira T Multi Charm Necklace featuring a hammered gold horn, .08 carats of dazzling diamonds, and a Love charm— channeling the ultimate music festival, Woodstock.
These natural nods toward the ferocity of nature pair wonderfully with slinky fringe vests, on-trend leather shorts, or denim of all types, but make sure to avoid wearing animal prints or you risk making the outfit look like a costume.
