Janis by Janis Savitt
Janis Savitt, a native New Yorker, had an interest in jewelry from a very early age. Her fondest childhood memories involve watching her father, an artist, hard at work. Her mother, a creative type as well, collected art, but of the wearable form, which Janis would admire - one dazzling piece after another. She remembers the day walking through Bloomingdales, at the age of 12, and seeing one particularly intriguing case. What it housed were small jewelry making tools such as a file and saw which prompted Janis to turn to her mother and say, “I want to learn how to make jewelry”. She was quickly enrolled in the YWCA and from there her skills were developed and honed as they continue to be today.
Janis excelled early on, creating jewelry for Van Cleef and Arpels and Cartier while still in high school. Among her greatest achievements is being the recipient of three De Beers Diamond International awards and is a two time nominee of the CFDA award. Her creations have graced the catwalks of such world-class designers as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Vera Wang, and Carolina Herrera. Janis’ jewelry has also adorned the bodies of celebrities Lady Gaga, Angelina Jolie, Rihanna, Emma Watson and Beyoncé. Her work has been featured on the pages of fashion magazines, most notably, Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, InStyle and W.
Since founding M & J Savitt she has branched out with her own jewelry collection under the label JANIS by Janis Savitt. Her collections can be found at the most distinguished stores in the world; Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus in New York; On Pedder, Lane Crawford and Jade Jakarta in Asia; Browns of London; Hudson Bay Company/The Room and Andrews in Canada; Nicole Miller Brazil; Tsum in Moscow, and Swarovski Worldwide.
